Sleep Better: A Guide to Improving Sleep for Children with Special Needs

Sleep Better: A Guide to Improving Sleep for Children with Special Needs is an excellent resource for parents and families of children who experience sleep difficulties. Durand is a behaviour analyst and a psychologist and is well established in the field of ASD, but he writes from a parent’s perspective and provides a multitude of pragmatic and sensible techniques that are applicable to children with and without disabilities.

Specific areas addressed in this book include the nature and overview of sleep problems, assessment, strategies for change specific to the problem, possible issues associated with medications and finally preventative strategies to avoid the development of sleep difficulties.

Durand takes into account a child’s development and how sleep problems evolve and change over time and are not static throughout an individual’s life. It is a great read for anyone interested in achieving a peaceful nights sleep!
