This award-winning short film and book by Rory Hoy provides an opportunity to learn about autism from the presenter’s perspective: an 18-year old with autism. Rory explains the importance of explicit teaching, for instance, how and when to wave and how to cross roads safely. He provides insight into the importance of routine, difficulties handling change and confusion that can be caused by noise and crowds. Rory wants others to understand the importance of obsessions and personal interests and why they shouldn’t be taken away from a student with autism.
