Map of Canada Puzzle is another task that allows students to work independently using a Work System and is an adaptation of a social studies task.
Materials you’ll need:
- an envelope
- a template showing a map of Canada (attached)
- cutouts of Canadian provinces and territories (attached).
- student task instructions (attached)
Print the Canada Map Materials. It may be best to print the puzzle pieces on tag board and colour is recommended. Put the puzzle pieces in an envelope and put in a folder or basket with the template and instructions that you want the student to use.
The student can follow directions given in written and picture form available in one of the attachments below.
For students who are new to this task and may need a lot of help, you can provide them with a copy of the Step-by-Step Task Board that will walk them through the task from start to finish.
For students who are slightly more advanced, you can use the abbreviated Build a Map of Canada Instructions. For students who are unfamiliar with the map of Canada or may have difficulty with this task, use template two.
For students who are more advanced use template one. As the students become more proficient at the task, you can fade the template altogether.
Work Systems allow a student to work independently in the classroom and eventually in work settings.
Please note that tasks for work systems should be directly related to a student’s IEP goals and be able to be independently performed.
