POPARD's individual student consultation model was designed to support school teams in addressing the priority needs of an individual student. This 1-day consultation visit concludes with a collaborative team meeting to develop a manageable implementation plan. The one-day consultation visit can be followed up by an Implementation Day to support the school team in carrying out the plan.
Our Extended Consultation model is similar to our 1-day student consultation visit, but allows for more intensive support over the course of 2 to 3 days for a student with complex needs. Each day concludes with a brief team meeting and, on the final day, a collaborative team meeting is scheduled to create the implementation plan.
Our Classwide Consultation option is suitable for classrooms that have enrolled more than 1 student with ASD. The classroom teacher has the opportunity to work closely with the consultant over the course of 2 to 3 days to develop general classroom goals, structure, curriculum, or behaviour support plans that have been shown to be effective for students with ASD in the classroom. Teachers requiring targeted support for specific students are requested to make a referral for an individual or extended consultation.
Similar to Classwide Consultation, Program Consultation may be provided to educators supporting more than 1 student with ASD. This option is specifically designed for school-based resource or itinerant teachers. Topics covered might include case management, classroom integration, curriculum adaptations and modifications, IEPs, advocacy, or parent-school communication. Teachers requiring targeted support for specific students are requested to make a referral for an individual or extended consultation.
Immediately following a consultation visit, our consultants can provide support to implement the plan generated during the collaborative consultation meeting. The goal of implementation support is to build the skill and confidence of the team by scaffolding team members through the change process. Examples of Implementation Support include modeling, co-teaching, or creating resources. Implementation Support is only offered as a follow-up component of the Student Consultation.
